Silvia Plimack Mangold, Untitled
Etching & Drypoint
26" x 19"

Thirty years later and I still love this print. Perhaps because of the immediacy of the primary media, spit bite and drypoint. Perhaps as a visual reminder of the pleasure of working with Sylvia in the Rocky Mountains.

Concurrent to this plate, we collaborated on a series of monotypes, with Sylvia painting en plein air, bringing the plates indoors to go through the press. She worked outdoors on the copper for this untitled etching also, as with Lodgepole Pine, a different etching which was published by Riverhouse Editions, and which I editioned on my return to New York.

This is signed and designated 1/1. Given that it is two stages of the same plate printed atop one another, and in different inks, it is truly unique. I don't think there was any edition from a final stage of the plate.
